Default Sell or keep?

Alright, I have an early 85 944. It had a minor electrical fire, as in burned out the headlight wiring. After months of dicking around with GEICO, they finaly decided they weren't going to pay me anything.

I was thinking about keeping it as a race car and stripping the interior all the way out. It's about half out now cause I was going to change it all over to black from bown and tan. It's doesn't have a whole lot of miles on some of the major parts. Like 9k on a timing bely change. Maybe 4k on new tires on 15" BBS wheels. It's got about 9k on a new alternator. Optima yellow top. Probably about 3k on a rear dif fluid change. It's got the vertex maf kit along with new tie rod ends and some stuff like that right before I bought it, about 9-10k ago. The body is good with some of the paint faded.

The big thing is being 23 and in college and having a house payment and an ex wife. I don't think I can give my baby the love she needs and the money would be nice so I can pay off bills my ex ran up.

What do you guys think, keep and race, or sell and try agian later in life?

P.S. If I sell it it'll be listed on here first cause I want her to go to a good home. I was actualy going to join today cause I got paid, but I got jacked today when I went and got my 4runner serviced.

How about storing it for a few years 'til you're out of college, then get it running again? You won't get much out of selling it now, with the fire damage and at this time of the year.

If you keep it, you can work on it slowly as time and funds allow.

sell. The battery is dead by now, and the car does not sound like it is worth turning into a race car. that would cost way too much. Even if you could afford to turn the car into a race car, can you afford to race? I know I can't.
Why is GEICO not paying on an engine fire?

Sell it. A race car can probably cost more than your college career and even more if you actually race. Sell the good parts off it and sell the rest as a whole.

Sell it, scrap it, or otherwise get rid of it. The mere sight of it is going to give you bad vibes.

Onward and Upward, baby !

Sell. Unpaid bills will mess with your life for years to come. There will always be other 944s.

"...GEICO, they finaly decided they weren't going to pay me anything"

Those Georgia girls that answer the phones at Geico are great. Unfortunately, that is the only upside to Geico. If anyone here is still insuring with these clowns, do yourself a favor - call an independent broker and get a quote. Its a hassle that will take a couple hours out of your life but it will save a enough money to fund a nice little diet of upgrades for your car. I can't beleive all the money I sent to Geico over the years.

really? no other insurance company can give me the rate I have. I save over $300/ a month compared to what other companies want to charge. it's ridiculous.

How much would it take to fix the wiring? And how much for the car? My nephew might be interested.

As far as I can tell the headlight wiring will almost entirely have to be replace along with the motor probably and the switch is melted off. I have a 924 parts car in the yard and i think the headlight harness in that is sperate and has the right switch.

I think I am going to sell it. Let me get listed as a member member before i go any farther in selling it on here. If it'll let me.

Yeah, same here. I've got my 951 as a secondary car, but I'm only paying like $250/6 months for full coverage. Evenything else for the camry and 951 was at least a couple hundred more per year.
