the answer is nothing. quotes like "it costs too much" and "you're wasting your time" will come up. Thats why I started my project.

Any HP numbers to report?

Same on the 928 side - except replace "Turbo" with "S4".

I've chatting with Todd (see the 427 link in my sig) about making a 3.5 liter N/A 16V 944S just for the hell of it. That possible project has nothing to do with this thread - just felt like bringing it up.

Okay... get passed the fact that I don't post too often...

Here in eastern Canada we have local racing at Mosport/Tremblant/Shannonville. Two years ago an 8v 2.7L motor with Milleadge parts and a Motec was easiling keeping pace with MODIFIED turbos. (The car was very light and the driver was excellent!!)

Anyhow, the owner reported that the engine put out over 200rwhp. The times he was posting easily backed it up. Solid lifters, top end Milledge Cam, High-Compression pistons, Milledge barrel throttle intake, and so on... He estimated he spent $14,000 on the motor. Motor blew up last race of season, never saw him again.

My good friend has a 944S we dynoed at over 185rwhp. Very modified. Built by Ludwig Hiemraths ex-chief race mechanic. Very real numbers.

Just takes $$$.

cheers,
Patrick

Very interesting. I'd like to know more! I have lots of mods still to put on my car. I just need the time to put them on my car and the time to dyno test them. I feel 185whp is easily obtainable. I won't be satisfied until 200whp though. Was your friend's 944S with the stock motronics? i'd like to hear more about it, any pics?

Yes, it has the stock computer but chipped and with a MAF. Not any real magic, cut the intake in half to port it, and then welded it back together. Head was worked very well and the biggest improvement he tells me was the valvetrain. He got some really hot cams (idle is pretty rough) and upgraded the valvesprings. Lightened everything else up. Not sure what pistons he is running. The fuel pressure regulator is adjustable as well. Stock headers I believe but no catalytic converter...

Hope that helps!

It's unfortunate that costs have caused 951 and 928S4 aftermarkets to expand while their predecessors are left with little.

200rwhp is at the edge of believable, though I do believe it. What I don't believe is that someone would spend $14000 on an engine just to get it up to 200. You can buy a 968 motor for like $6000 and already have more than 200rwhp. But I'm glad someone had the determination and passion to do what nobody else was willing to, but everyone else wanted to see.

A 3.5L 944S??? You've got my attention!

the formula would be the 3.0L engine with the 2.7 pistons and head, if done with the factory parts bin.
