I will agree with you on the trunk space issue. Boxster/Cayman has the two trunks, which definitely give more space that way. The Z4 simply had more space in the trunk than I expected it to have....plenty for two people on a weeklong trip, which is our main consideration in a sports car.

As far as cabin space, I was impressed with the shoulder room in the Z4. We felt pushed together in the Boxster/Cayman, whereas the Z4 had as much or more room side-to-side than our '06 Passat. No problem for either of us on the roof, either...I'm right at 6'1 and she's 5'2.

I guess it all comes down to personal preference. A Boxster is a nice car but I don't want a convertible, so it's either Z4 or Cayman. Between those two, the Z4 is more car for the money to me.

I don't know why, but the Z3 coupes just look fugly to me. Never liked them- to each his own!

And if GM throws the 300hp DOD V8 in a solstice/sky coupe it will be even more car for the money

You know, I think the top gear guys were right in wondering how it is that we only manage to get 300hp out of a V8. In a car that small, there's no reason to chuck that big of an engine in when you can get the same out of a better-engineered, smaller displacement engine that will more than likely get better fuel economy.

To be fair, though, the coupe IS a beautiful car. Too bad it isn't as fast as it looks...

Agreed. They can work wonders with turbos and tuning these days. Look at the new Audi S3 - 265 hp out of the 2.0T. I've read that VAG's 2.0T engine could produce 300 hp+ with more tuning and a different turbo. They're doing some great things with GM's ECOTec and that little Mazda 4-banger as well.

You'll not only get better fuel economy, but better handling, lower weight, and better packaging in that deal as well.
