I've always had success with a regular Kragen picklefork. Once, I didn't have the pickle fork handy, so I used a channel-locking wrench as a pickle fork. That worked just as well (but the shorter handle provided less torque). Next time I'll try the hammer on the side (that highlighted red part).

Just use a "tie rod puller" it works in seconds and is CHEAP:
