I bought a set from vertex... they were the cheapest I could find at the time, looks like they are now 98 bucks, and they came with Beru connectors and wire exactly like the old ones...

I forget what all wires I used in the past, but it seemed that the OEM wires stood up to the heat better.

you could always buy a roll of 1200 degree thermal shield from someplace like lindsey racing. they also sell plug wires and such... i know for a fact they are not messing around!

Email this guy, Mark Robinson. He was a Rennlist official sponsor when I bought them, for all you moderators out there. Think he still is.

mark-jra@sbcglobal.net

He sells hand made wires from Beru components. I got them for my '87 N/A for $54 delivered. Be aware that these are just the wires and not the connectors. The original connectors unscrew at both ends and you re-use those.

I put them on because the old ones, likely the originals, looked crusty. Noticed an immediate improvment in driveability and responsiveness. Wasn't missing and wasn't glowing in the dark previously so I was surprised at the amount of improvement. Had thought the AFM or other sensors were bad...and I had replaced them all.

I am running Clewett Engineering wires in my turbo. They are protected with 1200degree sleeving, and have been very good. Not expensive either, around $80-85 IIRC

I have used Magnacore's for a few years now, and I'm seriously thinking of changing brands the next time I need to replace them. The connectors at the spark plug end are just too damn fragile.

The aftermarket wires are definetely cheaper and seem to give just that extra pop for the butto meter but that does not always translate to more HP.

There was a post(s) on one of the boards which suggested a corosion problem with the connectors on the Magnecore wires relating to the poor fitment of the connector boots. IMO buying aftermarket wires is a good way to go if you buy the ones that have or allow you to reuse your Beru connector boots from the old wires (only if the Beru connector boots are in good condition to begin with).
I use the Jacob wires (JAC-4002407) that I bought from Sumit Racing 4 years ago which at that time allowed me to reuse the Beru connector boots, I don't know if they have since changed. At the time they were $36 now they are $53, they only come in one color blue if you must have red get something else.

They even provide some instructions that can apply to other aftermarket wire sets as well.

well, i ordered last night, got the magnecores mostly due to a decent price and a few recommendations. We'll see how they hold up. I'm replacing my wires, distributor cap, and rotor.

I have the Magnecores also and i do like them. The boots do feel a bit fragile. I read from a few older threads the boots tend to get stuck in the cylinder head and often tear when you pull them out. I put di-electric grease on the sealing surfaces of the boot and havent had and problems with removal.

OEM from Pelican, no problems no issues but not cheap. Also included the coil wire.
