Like the ones in Eric Sandovals old 968? I've emailed him several times but he won't return any email. I've been looking for years now for these things and every time I see pics of his car I get pissed.
Anybody know? Help please.

Every now and then they pop up on Ebay. Other than that, you will have to find someone that wants to sell.

What are they called officially? So I can refine my ebay search.

I always thought the stainless mouldings replaced the plastic strips - but looking at Sandoval's car they do appear larger as in the fit over the top. Hmmm, I have a plastic set laying here that I was going to try and have recreated in stainless/aluminum but havent messed with it yet...having one that just covers the plastic would be even easier to make...

The problem w/covering the plastic is that there's not much room b/t the bottom of the door & that piece, when you pull it closed- seems if the aluminum or SS or whatever, stuck out at all, it would make the door tougher to shut...? Anyway, if anyone makes any of these, I'm sure they'd sell really well- there are tons of us who want them... That's not a hint or anything there, Sam.... :-)

It can't be that hard to machine a piece, then just get "porsche" etched into it. Probably a graphics shop could do that, or just use a stencil and lightly sandblast. Or use a decal. I like the home-made approach.

Well, the thing is, those plastic pieces SNAP down to lock into place- they break easily, over time- my left one's cracked. Metal ones probably wouldn't snap in place the same way, which is probably why they made them as covers, rather than full replacements, but I would think someone could design something w/out tons of effort, even w/out the plastic POS ones underneath... Even if not metal, just something nicer- carbon fiber could possibly snap into place like the plastic ones- could be made in one of several finishes...? As for the finish, the stencil idea or decal, or whatever- this should be the easy part- we just need someone to make the whole piece to begin with- hopefully, if enough people see these threads & what kind of interest there is in these, maybe someone will try to make something... I was told, a few months ago when I started some threads on them, that they went for $400-$500/pr on ebay, when they could be found...!!! What type of place could / would machine a piece out of a better material than plastic...?

These are available in the UK and fit nicely. http://www.porscheshop.co.uk/acatalo...rsche_944.html
To help protect the sills from corrosion I drill holes under were the stainless protectors fit and inject a rust proofing solution - the protectors cover the holes perfectly. I also inject rust proofer over the rear wheel arches, access by removing the air vent in the door jam, just below the striker plate - might help those in the frozen northern states.
