If you want to, you can also get a pack of "heat register filters" from your hardware store and attach them to the air intake grates. I used four zip ties to attach them. They'll keep the dust and leaves out of your car.
Dal, can you post a picture of that?

Rollis, does the defrost button work (i.e., does it blow out heat)? That's my temporary solution

If I recall czar, it works off a rod and actuator. It only works when the rod is unclipped also because the actuator was not moving when the CCU called for it to.

The only whine I had was my a/c -alternater belt. After doing some research I found out the PO had installed an "early" 5 rib pulley and it was causing problems when I ordered a belt for an 87' (6 rib). Fixed that problem so there is is no whine from mine at all.
No, the whine I'm referring to is far different than belt noise. This noise is clearly coming from somewhere in the HVAC system. It only happens when you turn on the fan motors when the car is cold.

No whine from my HVAC at all. I'll keep you posted on the CCU install. I'm hoping to install it this weekend.

I checked the vaccum lines, I did find a hole in my fresh air intake (not the culpret). I've got heat as long unclip the rod...causing the 10,000 post topic "heat all the time"
By the way Matt O...I'll be a member next week (spent too much money this week). I'm looking forward to seeing that Rennlist Member in red under my name.

Default Problem Fixed

Just wanted to make a quick update. I bought a used CCU out of a working 88' 944. This takes like 5 minutes to pull your old one out and install a working unit in.

Thanks for the update!

I had a feeling it was the CCU. Glad it worked out for you.

Thanks tifosiman for your help. I can't help to wonder what my local Porsche Dealership would have charged to make this repair. My is guess is $$$$$. Thanks to Rennlist I was able to locate a CCU 20 minutes from my house and total cost for the fix was $40.00 !
Now the next project is a waterpump replacement. It's a biggie so I'll really be relying on you guys for some pointers.
