Default Late DME, is an 02 sensor needed?

I have an early car, and the 02 sensor has been cut. I know in the early cars this makes no difference in the running of the car. The car runs a tad rich partial throttle. However, I'll be swapping to a late DME. would i need to hook the 02 sensor up for it to work properly?

thanks.
