Default MAF sensor replacement for a AFM on a 84 944?

Does anyone know if there is a MAF sensor that will replace the AFM on a 84 944? I have followed an older thread on this site and have come to the conclusion that there is a problem with the unit on my vehicle. I would nornally go for the direct replacement part, but I realize that the AFM is a mechanical unit , more prone to wear and problems than a MAF sensor, strictly electrical. I ask the question because autoatlanta lists a kit, but only for the 944 turbo. also being a mechanical unit there is a certain amount of airflow restriction involved in its operation, wheras the MAF has considerably less.

hm...
9xauto.com sells one... but its something like $1000... and you might need bigger injectors or an adjustable FPR....

I was going to go that route, but realized it was much cheaper, and easier to just get a working AFM off a lister. You won't gain much hp... maybe 8-12 I think is what the site said for an N/A.

I havent been on their site in a while though.
