This list is driving me crazy! Do I need a turbo?
Help me guys, please! I don't know what has happened, but I've come down with a sickness. I can't stop looking at 944's... busted old heaps, shiny low mileage beauties, and everywhere in between.
I already have two NA's that are currently not running, although one should pull out of the garage next week, and the other is a parts car. I've come upon a Turbo with a blown t-belt that will require a rebuild, and the owner is asking $3000. He also told me that the PO was a smoker and the interior is kind of nasty. Paint looks good, glass is good, etc.
This is fine to me as I have a perfect dash and full leather interior from my 87 NA racer to swap in... am I freaking crazy or what? At the least, my girl will not be stoked to lose her driveway space to yet another bust-*** 44. But this one is a turbo! So freaking torn here....
it really is a love/hate relationship with these things.... what to do?

I enjoy my 944 spec car on the track well over my Stock 951 S.
Plus if you try to track/race the 951 prepared for the real expense to begin. I have owned my 951 since Feb 1997. I did about 5-6 track days in the car and a couple years of autocross. Fun, but cost was reason I built my 944 NA. My best lap in my 951 at PIR was 1:19. First time out in the 944 NA I turned a 1:20 with ease. A few months later I was in the 1:17's. Now I can turn 1:14.1's for 30 min straight. Back away from the boost.

Welcome to my world.... I constantly see "good buys" and have to pull myself away.
The key thing to realize is that cost of ownership includes more than just the initial cost of the car -- but you have to add to it the storage cost (a parking space for your GF), parts cost (pretty low in your case) and labor cost (time away from your other pursuits). A lot of the cost isn't monetary -- but it's still costly.

If you were in Az I'd give you a ride and you might see this differently.
BTW... I do have a 951 Great street car, but performance wise my little NA kills it everywhere, but in a straight line. Of course my 944 spec car would get really old on the street.

Of course you need a turbo. It doesn't need to be functional, but just buy a used turbo off ebay and use it as a nice paperwieght on your desk or something. I suppose you could make a really big keychain out of one if you really wanted.

Seriously, sell your two cars and buy a nice example of a 951. Your sanity, and your financial future, will appreciate it..................
