Smile First post (plus pics!)

Hey Guys,

I just got my 1984 Porsche 944 a couple months ago. It only has 89K miles and I bought it off the first owner. CA car. It had a really good repaint job (factory color) a couple years ago as you can tell. Does anyone know what this color was called from the factory?

I want to do some basic suspension mods for it. What does everyone recommend in terms of best bang for the buck on these cars?

Also my tach only seems to work when I give it WOT in 4th gear, which is strange. Anybody else have this problem?

-Glad to be here,
Justin

Nice looking car, and for posting a pic with your first post!

I'm not an expert on colors, but I'm guessing Zermatt silver? On the back end of the car, unsnap the carpet cover and look for the option codes. Zermatt silver is LY7Y

^ ^ ^ That was the extent of my Porsche technical expertise

The rest I leave to rennlist

PS, is that some kind of radar detector mount or something on the windshield?

Those aren't fuchs. They are cookies. Color looks darker than zermatt. I like it!

Default how about stone gray metallic

I had an 85.5 that was the same color. I believe it was called Stone Gray (or grey) metallic.

That color looks a lot like gemini grey, like my (former) early car was. It's like a sandy grey color, more brown than black. Check to see if the option code sticker is still there in back next to the spare. If it lists LZ7Z as the paint code that's what it is.

I think there's a paint color code listing somewhere on clarks-garage.com which lists some of the other possibilities.

I was guessing based on this site - y'know, I'm not sure if I've ever seen a Zermatt silver in person... I need to get out mor

Other ones that might be close:
Sapphire LY5V

edit: John, you beat me to it!

Gemini LZ7Z

That is a great color... now I'm dying to know what it is.

Looks like Stone Grey (also called Slate Grey) to me. Always liked that color. I miss my old Stone Grey 944

My car is slate grey and that looks like more of a darker/browner grey than slate grey is, so I don't think its that...

Haha, you'll learn to hate porsche with all their slightly different colors (especially interior parts). Welcome to the site!
