LSD / Posi ?
I just purchased an 86 951. I do not have the option code for the LSD transmission, but the transmission has the upgraded cooler and it is obvious someone has been in there recently. When the car is on the lift and one rear tire is spun, the other follows in the same direction - the domestic equivalent would be called positraction, limited slip, etc depending on manufacture. The problem is the mechanic said the car could have "positraction" and not have the LSD trans. Is that so? He said the LSD was stronger than "just regular positraction that all turbos had". It will lay two "S" shaped black marks for as long as I want ...through the top of third gear and beyond. - sorry for the length

find a new mechanic.
Posi and LSD (Limited Slip Differential) are the same thing, different names. The turbos either had it or didn't, nothing magical in between.
S shaped marks all the way through third? Let us know how that goes.

Positraction is a GM "brand" name for their limited slip differentials. Its like me saying, "I'm going to go Xerox these documents," even though the copy machine is a Canon.

But instead he said: "the car could have "positraction" and not have the LSD trans.... the LSD is stronger than the regular positraction that all turbos had."
So that means he is an idiot (i.e. he is talking, but doesnt know what the f*ck he is talking about).

Thanks for welcoming me. That is exactly as I suspected. It made no sense to me, but he is a large European shop in Orlando - always a lot of 911's and such in the parking lot. Veteran racer/hot rodder, and turbo lover, but new to European cars. Principles are different even from my Grand National. As for the burnouts...why the he#@ do you think I bought the car - she begs to be driven!
