Default Strange Problem

Ok in my 87 Im driving sometimes my turn signals work fine other times they wont work at all. Untill I put on the hazard lights then I turn off the hazards and the turn signals will work for a few minutes again. Ive tried replacing the relay twice. Is it the switch ???

I just went through this and spent the day rebuilding the relay module and in the end I found that if I flexed the module once it was in the socket it worked, though erratically. I cleaned the posts on the module and sprayed contact cleaner into the socket female and it work ok now. Your problem might be the switch but I doubt it as that is a real simple thing and you pointed out the signals will flash for a short time.

Its difficult finding an intermittent problem, but you might be able to stimulate the condition by wiggling the flasher relay while the signal is on and if it stops then you found the problem. In any case based on my experience clean the prongs on the relay and spray contact cleaner into the sockets. BTW for the brave you can adjust the speed of the flashing by turning the potentiometer inside the cover clockwise no more than 1/8 th turn. Pry the cover by inserting a blade under the two tabs at bottom of the relay module, after that its obvious, but gently please.
