Problem with headlights going up & down, up & down, up & down, ...
I guess Herbie has been reincarnated in my car. I am sooooo glad...
When I turn my headlights on, they become possesed and -- by themselves -- go up and down, repeatedly forever until I turn them off.
Relay has been replaced on headlight motor and problem still exists. I am thinking I need a new headlight motor.
Any ideas???? Am I the first to have this particular problem?

Check to make sure that with the headlight switch in the "on" position, you don't have battery voltage in all 3 wires at the headlight motor (one of the 4 is ground). If you don't, then it's likely the headlight motor.

When I had some trouble with the headlight motor on the early car, it turned out to be the relay on the motor. I opened it up, cleaned the contacts with some fine emory cloth (they were a bit charred) and it works like a charm. I'd suggest starting with that, it's a cheap and easy fix if it works.

Make sure that there is abosolutely nothing blocking/interfering with the headlights as they go up/down. I had the same problem and it turned out that there was a screw missing from the washer resovoir and it had moved into the way of the headlights just slightly.

Thanks for the feedback, though.

If it's not the relay then it's the rotary switch on the motor. Follow this and check the brushes.
