Default reindex / spring question.

85.5 n/a

im wanting to get the weltmeister 200 springs, and reindex the rear .
my question is should i get coil-overs for the front instead, if the weltmeister springs will only give me 1 1/2 inch drop and one spine on the torsion bar will give me 2 1/2 inch drop. is there any way to get half that in the rear?

i was thinking it would be easier to drop the rear one spline and put coil overs on the front and adjust to match the rear. and if i drop the front more than 1 1/2 inches i will need longer ball joints correct?

any thoughts or did i anser all my own questions.

Torsion bars actually provide much finer adjustment by working with the splines on both ends. IIRC there are 40 splines on the inner end and 44 on the outer. Moving the inner end one tooth changes the angle by 9 degress (40/360) whereas moving the outer end one tooth will change the angle 8 degress and 11 minutes (or 8.18 degress - 360/44). Thus by rotating one end clockwise and the other end counterclockwise, you can change the angle by 49/60th of a degree (0.82) which will allow for much finer ride height adjustments. This amount of angular movement will change the ride height about 1/4 of an inch.

1 1/2" is already a fair amount of drop, I would not want to go 2 1/2. You will likely be safer with the longer ball joints (such as Rennbay's kit). Some say up to about 1" of lowering is tolerable on the stock pins in combination with stiffer springs. I'm not sure if there is a real hard-and-fast cut-off point though.
