2k is lunch money. if you have the garage space buy it and put exotic/classic insurance on it. take it to a few concours a year and have fun. just dont try to make it something it isnt - a quick or valuable car. if you leave it bone stock and keep it in time capsule condition you will get your money back and maybe some more when you get bored of it.

The regular pattern Audi 5-speed was standard for 1980. Sounds like a nice car, would love to see some pics. If you don't buy it I will!

I parted a 79 924 with the 5-speed, sold it to a friend to put in his 88 924.........

Considering the '79 924 came with a snailshell gearbox that is not compatible with any other model of Porsche I'd say you owe your friend an apology, and a refund.

There are so many things wrong with that scenario that I think it best we just leave it alone.

Jump on it. Any car in mint condition is worth at least that.
