They should make a miata coupe. It might look ugly, and people might consider it an abomination, but it might be lighter and more practical as a daily car for some people.

They did:

http://www.miata.net/misc/slowsong.html

"Mazda's M2 design studio made some coupe Miatas a few years back. The Miata designers at Mazda R&D in Irvine were not pleased with the results and decided to do their own version. Thus the 'M'-Coupe, this year's Miata show car. Mazda may or may not sell it in this country. Some might buy it for its sportiness, it's race-track prowess, but in my mind much of the fun will be gone. Such a car would be a modern day version of a 240Z, or perhaps a miniature RX-7. Both cars were very popular in their time, and sold well. Both are still raced today by amateurs and professionals on race tracks around the country - or down twisty mountain roads. And the national car clubs for each of these makes is hopelessly extinct. Local pockets remain, but the fire or their enthusiasm has been reduced to a few smouldering embers. The cars were changed, "got serious". They just weren't fun any more. And they never learned to slow dance."

I drove an early miata over the summer and wow it is a sweet car to drive... I just can't get over the looks and the cheapness I saw all around. I was a hair away from picking up a 92 miata for $900 (running and driving) but no room in the driveway..

I have been considering buying/building a specmiata. I currently race a 951 in NASA and am thinking if the simplistic car and class will help my driving skills and have some fun...

Maybe it would help if I meant '07 Miata vs a 944 - I'm buying for daily driver duty, and it has to be new... (I haven't had a car last past 30K yet...)

i bought a 99 miata with 40k miles and a new top in february. drove it more than the 944 this summer, prefer to autocross the miata. have not regretted selling the firebird i owned for almost 30 years to buy the miata.

i highly recommend a miata to anyone that enjoys driving for the sake of driving.

You could always run 944 spec in NASA.

Miata is like a High Powered Go-Cart.
Lots of fun, but very basic.

BeerBurner's thread is spot-on for this question. It is very much what I experienced going from a Miata to the 944. My favorite comparison was the sound the door makes when you close it.

The Miata is best for a sunny weekend drive around a city with twisty roads. However if you plan on driving 45+, the 944 wins hands down for quality of drive.

Though Miata's are everywhere, and thus, so are their parts. The simplicity of the car also helps when doing maintaince. For the value, its still the best roadster available for the price.

Actually it is NOT like go-kart.

It is about 2000lbs too heavy and given that weight way underpowered.

Now compared to a go-kart EVERY car is an overweight slug.

Still a miata is nice for what it is.

A couple weeks ago I was at a used car lot, I test drove a C4 'Vette, and a '94 Miata. Man the Miata was fun!!! I can honestly say I liked driving the Miata better, extremely fun to drive around in town, my only complaint is that the brakes felt pretty meager after driving the 944 daily for 8 months.
Now I have to choose between finding a nicer Miata thatn that one( was pretty ratty), or a Golf GTI to finance for daily driver duty.

Try pulling 3g's in a Miata. Shifter karts are very fun.
