Maybe someone else with more experience could substantiate this.
There are a lot of threads on the OPRV. If you haven't already, you might do a search and finds some more answers to your questions along with some pictures. I have some pictures on my home computer that I can send you if you would like. If so, why don't you pm me and we can take it from there.
You never mention why you want to R&R the valve? Are you having oil pressure problems?

no oil pressure problems, steady 2 bar at idle and 4.5 while driving. It was mentioned by in one fof the PO service receipts that the OPRV might need replacing because of a slight leak.

There is a crush washer around the OPRV that you can try to replace if you do have a leak there.
Like Hank said, you dont need to use the alignment tool, but at $250 for a new OPRV i would just to use the alignment tool just incase!
But seriously, if you did not loosen or take off the bolts for the oil cooler i wouldnt worry about using the OPRV. To change the the valve, its pretty simple.. only requires a fairly large wrench or socket, i think 24mm?? I cant remember. Just be prepared for the oil to come out.
