Default will a 924 hood fit my 84 944

the PO tried to close the hood except the hood struts were corroded so hood has a nice crease. i have located some hoods but the closest, cheapest, nicest is a 924 hood.

are they the same...rather are their differences in the hood between different models and years?

Should fit. Only difference would be the insulation which has probably fallen off by now anyway.

I've got one off an 85.5 944 $100 if you want to drive to La Crosse.

It's got a couple of scratches on it, but it's straight. The insulation has flaked off the inside.

If it is an Audi-engined 924 hood, you will need to make/install the hood lift strut attach points.

I much rather have the early hood with a rod that holds the hood up than the retarded hood shocks always going out and hitting me on the head.

The 931 hood can hit the wipers on the later cars but seems to fit the early 944 models fine. The wiper mounts are moved a bit on the later cars, something to do with the different windshields I think. You'll probably get a better reply from someone who has done it before. I almost bought a 931 hood for the 86 but the seller said that's why he was selling it; wouldn't fit his 86.

81 and later 924-s have hood struts, not rod.

Maybe in Europe, not in the U. S. as all 924s have rods unless they are 87+.

I have a 924 hood (with the prop) and it fits my late (85.5) 944 just fine, no problems. The back of the 924 hood is a little different, there are no indentions for where the washer arms go. The clearance is tight, but it fits provided you have it adjusted properly. FYI, early (83 and early 84) 944's have basically the same 924 hood, with the hood prop hole and flat back, and the hood shocks.

Not true, I have an 82 924 with factory hood shocks.

I'm not a fan of the prop rod, it tweeks the hood way too much.
