Default Replacing parking brake shoes

Anybody have any tips or suggestions on how to do this? When I replaced the rotors, I saw the parking brake shoes were pretty scketchy. I tried briefly to take one set off, and gave up out of frustration.
How does one get the retaining spring clip off? (the one that holds the shoe against the backing plate) It almost seems like you'd need to pulll the hub to be able to get in there at the right angle to push and twist it off.
This is on the 968, but they're the same brakes as any 951.

Insert a large screwdriver into the spring to compress it, then twist it. It will pop out of the backing plate.

Replacing the shoes themselves isn't difficult. The problem I encountered was that the driver's side actuating lever was frozen up with rust. Disassembly + Dremel wire brush corrected it.

If you decide to replace the shoes, I found carpartstogo.com had the best price on sets at $76.53 for four shoes. Even though the site says the shoes are 'NLA 06/06', they are still in stock.
