Default Adding a knock sensor (position)

Against the advice of the community I intend to add alittle boost to my NA. But first I would like to take some steps to protect my engine. (I'm crazy not stupid) I am looking into a standalone controller that could be used if things got bigger latter. Particulary the VEMS with input for a knock sensor. So I ask the question whats the best position for a knock sensor? Where is it located on the 951 and the S2?

Another slightly unrelated ? Did the 968 have a knock sensor and if so did it and the S2 have a KLR unit like the 951?

On the 951 it is between #2 and 3 cylinders near the drivers side of the head. IIRC the 944 head should have the same mounting boss for the sensor. The 944S2 and 968 have two knock sensors, one between cyl #1 and 2, the other between cyl #3 and 4. The 944S2 and 968 have a different version of Motronic that contain an integral knock detection circuit.

Awesome!!! I've been toying with buying a 951 motor with a broken timing belt to pull all the turbo parts off and convert that way... except with a controlable wastegate to keep the boost down. add in the DME and KLR and its all gravy.

One more question if any one is still looking... What about the Variocam? can you run a variocam head on a 951 DME, or would you have to run 951 off a 968 DME?

You know what, I think I just answered my own question with the standalone.

You would need a standalone to do Variocam on a boosted engine. Most will be able to do it, the 968 Variocam is just on/off, not continiously variable, so you just set an output to switch at some RPM and wire it up to the Variocam valve.

The knock sensor mounts on the block. Theres a hole for the idle control valve mount thing, knock sensor sits behind that. I can post a picture for you if you want.
