WTB: Looking for a NA 944
#2
Welcome!
Well... if you become a paid member, you could see the classifieds. Not sure if there are any cars there with under 75k miles, though. We tend to drive our cars
Do you also have a price point? Problem is, an '85 is over 20 years old, and finding one under your mileage means finding one that was driven less than 3,750 miles per year - which means a garage queen. You'll probably pay a premium for that.
My recomendation is to not worry about the mileage so much. I purchased my car a year ago with 118k on it, and nothing has gone wrong (new clutch at 116k, woohoo! thanks to the PO). There are several guys with over 200k on their cars which are in nicer shape than mine, and at least one guy who had something like 300k~350k miles on the original engine (and, IIRC, original clutch!).
What you need to worry about are items like the plastic and rubber components, which become brittle more from age, heat, exposure, etc., rather than miles, electrical components/connections (same deal with age and environment, rather than miles), and wear items such as the clutch (very expensive to repair at shops) and tranny, which again... depend more on how it was driven than on the miles.
If I had a pristine 944 with 50k miles on it, I could abuse the crap out of the engine, clutch and tranny in 20K miles an it would meet your mileage requirement. I would much rather have one of those 200k mile cars from someone that took care of their car.
PS, helps to know where you are! Also, how new you are to the 944... if you've been driving them for 20 years and are just looking for a garage queen, I've been wasting my time explaining stuff you already knew If you're a complete newbie to 944s, try the search feature for what things to look for in buying a 944
Good luck in your search! When you find and buy one, post pics!

Welcome to rennlist!
Where are you located? I'm sure you will be able to find a rennlister near by that would love to help you find a quality 944 locally. How far are you willing to travel/ship to get the 944 you want? I think Jack pretty much summed up everything I wanted to say.
Mostly, welcome again and happy hunting!

Holy cow, mint 1990 944S2 with 34k miles! Concour D'Elegance winner.
Daaayyummmm! I don't want to even ask the price, even though it says best offer!

Thanks for the input. I live in PA but I'm willing to fly / drive home the right car. I'm new to 944's but have been lurking / reading on a number of websites for about 4 months now.

Don't know what you want to spend, or what shape of 944 you're looking for, but if that 1990 S2 ends up being too much $$$, check out Todd's cars
I'm kinda glad I don't live in Tennessee, or else I'd have another 944 in my driveway... or both of Todd's orphan 944s...
Then again, if I lived in Tennesee, I could probably drive them year round, instead of just April-October! Woohoo!
<TN is on a short list of places we think about retiring to!>

I'm looking on the 5K-8K range. I know the upper end of that is "cheap turbo" territory. I looked at a local 86 944 with 52K last week. The seller wanted $6000 for it although the AC and odometer were inoperable.
while I was searching around I saw this turbo on autotrader.....

according to the carfax report the mileage looks correct.

his 944 is the perfect train car. hatch for home depot runs, nice handling for me... a used camry with the soul of a dead flounder would cost me 5k, why not pay him 6.5 for his. where else am i going to get a never in an accident 944 with 77k miles for about 2-2.5k? how many people pay 3k and more for a ratty old 944 that has crappy carpets etc. and imminintly in need of the same work he just did

Sounds reasonable.
