Default 1984 U.S. Cars and Power Steering

I searched and did not see a specific answer to the following question:

Were any 1984 U.S. Spec 944s equipped with manual steering? I know that power steering was standard, but could manual steering be obtained as an option?

I understand that in Europe all cars after September of 1984 had power steering, but I wasn't sure whether that meant that some 1984 cars that were manufactured before September might have had manual steering.

Thanks.

Actually, my car has a power rack that has been converted to manual . . . so I was thinking of "fixing" this by converting to a true manual rack.

Not that I've ever seen.

I'm guessing you'd be out of "spec" if you swapped in an 83 rack?

I have an 83 with a build date of 6/82 with manual and another car with a build date of 4/84 with power.

ITS may be different, but for NASA spec 944 it is fully allowed to swap in a manual rack to any year chassis. It was a stock part from the factory on a production 944, so it is allowed. I know I'm swapping out power steering on my car...
