Default Need an 83 up head I think.. got one?

My friend swears he didn't move the motor when he changed the belt... it ran terrible and i told him to check the TDC from the top hole. he was using one on the bottom of the engine. Anyway once he used the top mark he had to move the camshaft counter clockwise almost 3 teeth.

Is that far enough to bend the valves?
I am at his house right now and when we turn the motor over it spins real fast and if I pull the plugs and put my finger in the hole I get no pressure....

Suggestions quickly :-) before I tell the dude to start pulling his head off, (the one on the car I mean)

ok... he has an 83 944 5 speed..... He claims he used a hole on the passenger side to line up the mark in the bellhousing.... since i cam over I used the hole on the drivers side top that is in the book.

UPDATE....
Now the owner said he actually turned the cam shaft halfway in both directions until he felt it "touch" I highly suspect he bent the valves...

So Anyone got a decent 83 up head they want to sell?
JC
