928 guy helping a 924 guy need some help
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
he has a 77 924. he has had it for a month and can not get it to go. He is not much of a motor head. He asked for my help tonight.
I have spark, i have fuel. I think the timing is way off. the TB cover is off the car.
And when i go to spray starting fluid in the intake it blows it back out at me. also i get exhaust gas out the intake when cranking wide open throttle. the car was hydro locked with fuel when i got there. We pulled all the plugs blew out the gas, put it all back together. Now we crank just fine but not even a pop when we crank it.
timing off 180 degree?????
he has a haynes manual, but it does not go into detail enough for me. does anyone have somthing you could email me or help me out with the timing marks? Khuber@innovative-pos.com

The crank timing must be set back at the flywheel - window where the crank sensors are on a 2.5L car. The cam timing mark is on the back of the cam gear, lines up w/ the pointer on the cam cover.
It's possible to get the timing off one notch by tensioning it incorrectly; make sure the marks line up with all the slack on the tensioner side of the belt.

Do you know where the crank position sensors are on a 2.5L? Same location, bellhousing, directly under the back of the intake.

oh yeah, Thanks a bunch. we'll do it today> i never had to check timing like this before. but it this statmetn correct?
when the timming marks are lined up, #1 is at TDC and the Dist should be at/near #1.....

No need to climb under the car to see the bellhousing window. Look under the coil...
Yes, the distributor rotor should be pointing at the #1 wire, and also should be pointing at the rear-most intake manifold bolt.
