Removing axles and repacking CV Joint proceedure?

Got some advice from a good mechanic buddy of mine. Said the thing to do is to take the entire assemly apart, down to the ***** out of the bearing, wipe them down and clean with carb cleaner.
Also said that you have to look at the wear pattern inside the bearing carrier.. if the line is straight and centered inside, then you can swap/reverse the direction of the axles. If by design the wear line is at an angle on the inside, you can not reverse them. (He works on Ferrari's and Lambo's for a living, so I guess he knows what he's talking about.)
Ordered new CV joint bolts and Red LIne grease from Paragon. So, next week I'll attack this project. Need to finish rebuilding the throttle body and reinstal the tranny in the mean time.

I knew one side was bad- when I got to the wheel side, the grease was a different color and the bearings in the cage was pitted with rust. The boot didn't look bad- strange.
I replaced both and reinstalled. My advice- get some rubber gloves. That's some nasty crap down there.
