swapping diffs
So i was thinking neither my parts car nor my race car have diffs. I discovered a few times this weekend if i want to go any faster around some corners a diff would be very useful. I have the parts car trans, and i was thinking ov swapping an lsd into that. Could i do this myself? If not would a shop charge an arm and a leg?
The list of stuff I think I'm going to swap into the trans would be, lsd, short 5th (out of an 88+) and maybe a 4.11.
I'm fairly mechanicly inclined but i have yet to tinker with transmissions. But i would like to know what you all think.

I just may, but they are 2x as much as a used one, and i still have no idea how hard it is to install it, lol... i hope i can do it.

A shop that knows what they are doing will charge an arm and a leg. Big bucks to do a diff swap and reset the preload and backlash on the R/P.
Do take a look at the Factory Trans manual before even thinking about doing it yourself.
The disassembly and reassembly can be done with a vise, couple different sized gear pullers, a little propane torch, big snap ring pliers, and a small press with some homemade plate/dies (needed if you disassemble the pinion shaft), but you need to know what you are doing when setting the pinion depth, tooth engagement and the preload for the ring and pinion. Otherwise, best case, you can get a loud gear whine (if the teeth are not engaging correctly), worst case, you can damage the ring/pinion.
You also can a search on this, and the turbo board, for transmissions, LSDs, and S2 Ring/Pinions and see what comes up. I recall several discussions regarding transmission rebuilding and LSD installation in the past year or so.
