Default Gap in a spark plug

Ok, so I bought 4 NGK BPR7ES spark plugs. I think the gap is 0.28. What exactly does the gap do/mean? Should I make it smaller or larger?

Thanks

You should probably do a search- there are about 5,000 threads on my car and almost as many posted dyno sheets.

I thought our cars didn't require a plug that had resistance because it was already built into the wire? Am I wrong? I've always bought BP7ES.

No clue headhunter. I was told to get a plug that runs cooler due to the higher boost.
