Ever since I converted to manual roof, it seems like the latches rattle some over bumps even when closed, is that normal?

Rattles and such are part of teh fun of old vehicles, so it doesn't really bother me. Just curious if thats what people live with. and it rattles a lot more when tilted up even when held in by the snap strap.

 

I converted to manual. I had to use small chunks of rubber between the rear latches and the inner roof (ceiling?) of the car to make them tight. No rattles.

 

Devon, mine squeaks occasionally but doesn't do what you describe. If you unlatch the front latches and release the pressure, it goes away. I'll probably replace the seal someday.

I'll show you, next week let's go on a photoshoot/drive with the cars.

 

Mine don't rattle on either car. The 83 is OE and the 86 is converted. I really have to snap them hard on the converted one; no way it can rattle. The condition of the seal must have something to do with it. Mine rattle when I have them in 'tilt' mode on really bumpy roads though.

 

My 83 sunroof was dead silent, and I didn't even have the strap... It was OEM, and I'd replaced the seal on the body, but still, it'd always been quiet.

 

My 83 has the original seal and it doesnt make any sort of noise.
