I talked to the Allstate homies and they said that my car is worth 5200. After I buy it back ill only get 4500. Does this sound fair? I kinda feel like im getting royaly screwed as I cant find even a busted *** messed up 951 for that price. My car wasnt that ****ed up anyway. What do you guys think?

While I don't know what happened to your 944, the $5200 must be a wholesale book value. Unless you had a stated value policy, or a recent appraisal, you may be SOL. Insurance plays by the book. Read the book or be at risk. Sorry.

First things first...
Insurance is the biggest legal scam in existence....
Second, unfortunately the "average" value of a 20 year old car is not much...
Third..It will be very hard to "prove" it was worth more...
Fourth, without proof you have no leverage...
Finally...take the $$$$ and run to the bank...then part her out $20 at a time.....it will live forever vicariously through us all!!!!
(of course,I am not an expert, nor have I ever claimed to be)
Good Luck Grasshopper!!!!!

I've seen insurance companys paid up to $12,000 for a 86's turbo that had 180,000 miles. The owner had lots of paperwork to back the value up, and printed out the highest $$$ 86' 951 ads he could find to determine a replacement value.
Remember it's their job to pay the least, it's your job to get more.

yeah, find ads with 951's that are more expensive for higher mileage or similar mileage and expensive.
it shouldnt be hard.
i got almost 4k for my '84 when it got totaled.
if anything ever happens to the 951, the insurance company is in for a battle to the death.

Dealing with an insurance company on a total is a ROYAL PAIN IN THE....well you know where....!
My86n/a was totaled out for minor front sheet metal work. They would only deal with factory parts which are way to expensive, running up the repair cost. I even found used replacement parts and gave them the prices. They wouldn't budge. They gave me 3200, I bought it back for 500, the result is what I had at the Fest. If the frame is bent, they probably don't even want to deal with it at all, just pay you off. Now the question is, can you get enough out of it by parting it out ?.....if you buy it back from them. It's a decision I wouldn't want to be making. Good Luck.

Get all of your recipts together and find some good examples that you can show the insurance company for price comparisons. I had a corvair I restored and they offered me $1000 for and I ended up talking them up to $4000 and was able to keep the car. Stick by your guns and you will get what you should for it.

There are several "busted-***" 951's here in the Bay Area for less than $4500 on craigslist right now. That being said, you may want to do exactly as others have said and get plenty of ads showing very similar 951's for substantially more.
I'm glad I had better experiences with our two totals in the last 2 years (one my fault, one another driver's fault) -- the insurance company offered us about $6k more for the 968 than we paid for it initially, and about $3k more for our VW Cabrio than the highest offer we had had on it prior to the crash.

This is where the good insurance companies get separated from the BS low budget outfits. Remember this when you shop for insurance. IMHO, Allstate SUCKS. Ask any claim adjuster what insurance company is the best to deal with. I use State Farm, and when my truck got stolen and banged up, they paid promtly for a full estimate done at the shop of my choosing ( the Toyota Dealer) using all NOS parts. I've heard similar tales of very satisfied customers from totaled cars.
Best of luck, Rock. I'm betting you can part out that beast, add it to the 4.5K, and recoup more than what you had in it. How much did you pay for it, anyway? It isn't always wise to look at this type of situation as a money making opportunity.

well even rock does buy it back he still made a few k more than he paid.
I wouldn't say the price is "fair" bro, i'd try for more.. if they don't move.. i'd say its not tooo bad.

i just sent rock a PM with a plan on how to get more $.
If peple that know the car can post publicly the good points of the car I would appreciate it.
Rock and I are going to appraise his car using comparable sales. he will have a questionairre up in a day or so asking recent 951 purchasers to describe their car. with particular emphasis on how your new car compares to the good points of rocks car. also, any bad point of YOUR car you want to post, which will help boost the value of rocks car would be appreciated.
rock has a burden to prove the value of his car. one he "proves" it to the insurance company they have the burden of proving him wrong. i am using the word burden to make it easier to understand, not as a legal term because i am NOT practicing law on this board.

that's exactly what i did. i printed out the highest-priced 944's i could find (n/a's and similar years) on autotrader and craigslist and took 'em to my insurance company with i think a NADA estimate.
i'm telling you, they gave me 3500 bucks for an '84 that was 3 colors to begin with and that i had bought for 1800.
![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
be persistent.
at first they wanted to give me a little over 1k. i said "that's bull****" and hounded them for a few days about it and provided proof.
