I'll second that. I've personally seen some nasty stuff from their motors. They love to use Red Gasket Maker wherever they can, even on the inside.

Default Turbo 944 Rolex

Just to update everyone,as we,( my son and I),are the owners of this 944 Porsche. The car finished the 2001 season in overall 2nd place Grand Am GTO Class. And it is correct that is was beaten by the Saleen Mustang
The car was originally painted in Silver livery for the Daytona 24 Hour Race, and ran with a 3.0L turbo motor. Was also the last 944 allowed to run in the Grand Am Rolex Series. The car was originally built by Albert Broadfoot in Jacksonville Florida in 2000. Several updates have been performed since retirement from Pro racing. David Brown at Speedwerks NC just replaced the Electromotive EMS with a full Motec system. We need to get it on their dyno to get some updated power figures. The motor was rebuilt by Broadfoot as a 2.6L Turbo from its original 3.0L Turbo in 2004. Prior to the rebuild the car was running in PCA GT1,but it's alot more fun running in PCA GT3. Also the motor has a lot more longivity, don't have to run the boost up so high. The car is also equiped with air jacks, brake bias control,a full fire suppression system, and numerous other Mods that fill three extra pages of text. You are correct as far a the Fuel Refill Drybreaks (Grand Am required) for the Fuelsafe race cell P.S. Dave Rodenroth FL Crown PCA(Co-Chair upcoming PCA Daytona club race) ,had the distinction of being one of our drivers for the Rolex Daytona event.

Hyroller, I was impressed by your car when I saw it last weekend and I hope the pictures I posted were complimentary. Obviously, many others here are impressed too.

It's a small world.

Thats probably not a 2.5L. Rather, its a 3.0L 968 bottom end with custom low compression pistons made for turbocharging. The owner used the 8 valve head and 944 turbo intake tract rather than dealing with all of the expense and effort involved in custom fabricating the parts required for a 16 valve turbo. This is the more common and less expensive (though still quite expensive) method of achieiving a 3L Turbo.

I had the honor of driving that 944 as hyroller stated and it was a hoot to drive once we got the bugs worked out. We had a great time contesting teams with perhaps more talent but we held our own and made the podium in several races including Homestead, Lime Rock, and the Paul Revere at Daytona. The car is probably better today than it was when we ran it due some development but I'll always be thankful for having the opportunity to have competed in it. It was well built and has only the best compnents in it. This a pic from the horseshoe at Daytona during qualifying for the 24 hours.

That race car is badassed. I love the intake manifold. What kind of pre-turbo exhaust system is that car running, if not custom?

I think swapping an entire 951 engine into a 968 and throwing some chips/injectors/turbo on it is probably the easiest and cheapest way to get yourself a much more powerful 968. You don't even have to touch the internals!

Next year we plan to run the car at the Glen ,VIR, Mid Ohio and Road America.
I'll also try to dig up some high rez pics.
There are also plans to possibly run this car at the Daytona PCA event in October.
