Default timing belt tensioner

ok now my car is in for service and the guy and myself belive that the timing belt tensioner might be the cause of the ticking going on. now i went to zims and am gonna order the timing belt roller kit. but he had also said to buy a new tensioner, which i would but it would wipe out my budget!
i found one here
http://944online.com/cgi-local/ASI_S...gineblock-9442
now my question is can i just buy the gear or perhaps the spring?
i looked thru the site and there are alot of things that "look" like what i want but am not sure. so anybody got any ideas? id do a search but since it hurts to type im for-going that.
thanks again
jeff

Isn't SwiftyZenBadd's car an early one, made before the tensioners? If you're not sure, ask Ian or someone at 944online before you buy it, they'll steer you straight.

You mean if it's not a 968 or a 928 it won't use a hydraulic tensioner.

Hard to believe it would need a new tensioner. If the belts are flapping around they might need adjustment or replacement, and it might need some rollers, but what's going to go wrong with the tensioner assembly?

dammit it didnt post my response. in the earlier post i had said that my car was an 86. i just got back from seeing my mechanic, and he had said that the sproket thing would come in the belt and roller package im gonna buy from zims. he had determined that the rack wasnt the major leak of the atf puddle. so that leaves the friggin p/s pump. gonna go price out a rebuilt one. the balljoints need to be rebuilt, not sure if im gonna have fezz do it or my mechanic. so that leaves the mysterious p/s prob, and the equally mysterious fuel problem- i can smell fuel but there are no indications of a leak anywhere! then there is the oil pan gasket. it needs to be replaced! but if he does that i want him to put in new rod bearings and such. he doesnt want to turn down buisness, but he had told me he really doesnt want to mess with all that. on the up side there were alot of really nice euro sports cars in that day! 77 911 Targa, 86 911 Turbo (both red) Alfa Romeo Quadraphile?-whatev. Z3M roadster, carrera 4, and a nice 95 bmw 840. there where a few mint muscle cars, but since i got my p-car, they dont interest me much anymore. and the usual mercedes benz line-up, not worth talking about imo.
