You could always take them apart and inspect.

Best case scenario, the joints are good and now they are clean and regreased.

Worst case, you have to replace them but you have already done half the work.

The clicking will come back. When mine started clicking I had jacked the car up to look around and after I lowered it back down it had stopped clicking for a while and then all of a sudden it returned. I would take them out to clean and regrease them and swap to opposite sides.

If it's an open diff you just stop going.
