Default 924S Seat Belt Problem

In my 1987 924S, the front seat belt buckle/receptors are at the top end of a rigid steel shaft. (The bottom end attaches to the side of the trasmission hump, I think.) This shaft is so long that when I have my skinny 70 lb. daughter as a front seat passenger, the belt is held suspended well above her left hip; in almost any impact, she would likely submarine under the belt. I could put a booster under her, but since she's 11, that would be most uncool. Does anybody make a shorter replacement part, or would some sort of generic buckle on a short flexible strap be an option? Suggestions are welcome!

Can you just move the seat forward?
