I'd run 944spec if I only knew how to drive.... (Yes, I'm working on it...)

1) Car preppared to the 944 spec rules
Base cars are 2.5L 8v, 83-88, 944 or 87,88 924S US spec
In a nut shell,
Engines, brakes and drive line are stock
Tires and wheels are "spec"
Suspension is free to a point, but limited what would a firm street set-up. Koni's, Paragon coil overs in front , t-bars only in rear.
Body's are stock with all glass & sheet metal
Interiors are stripped.
Min weight is 2600lbs with driver for all cars.

2) Competition license from NASA

For number 2 you can supply racing license from other orgs to get a NASA license or you can start in the DE ranks and move to level where you can attend the racing school or test for license. I would say 75% of 944 spec guys started in DE and work their way up with this being their first racing of any type. Maybe 25% had any racing before 944 spec. So 944 spec is very friendly to first time racers.

I wish I had the car for this. Looks like a lot of fun.

Do you have any competitions a 924 Turbo could run in? From what I've heard (the car doesn't run yet) it is as fast if not slightly faster then an early 944.

No.
The class was limited to the 83-88 944 and 87,88 924S since these were these cars are all very close in terms of parts, but span the greatest number of years. The entire idea for the class is to be racing in car just like the guy next to you so that who wins is determined by who is better driver, not by who has the faster car. Think of like Porsche Michelin Supercup, but at 1/10 the expense and on Toyo's.

Hi Joseph,

Thanks! I have no illusion of beating the 944spec veterans like Bill Pennock and Tim Comeau. I'm there to learn and try not to get lapped
Are you going the the HPDE only event Aug. 24th?
We'll be testing there that day.

I'm tracking the building of your 944spec car in your web journal.
That's a great looking car and the clean interior and wiring puts my car to shame.
Can't wait to see it on the track!
Good luck finishing it up.

I'm sure you'll do just fine. Plus, Tim still have get his new car dialled in.

I'm going to miss NASA this weekend (for a wedding) and August 24 (have to work). But I'm still trying to do as many track days as possible to get myself up to speed.
