When I lived in Cleveland I got pulled over into a roadside checkpoint specifically because my front plate was on my dashboard instead of my front bumper. Bogus? Absolutely. But I got a ticket anyway. Since then, I always run a front plate, except on my 914, which has historical plates, so it's exempt from needing a front plate.

i guess that i am living dangerously then! especially since i can't afford to get another ticket untill i turn 18 regardless of what it may be for. Yet i am still considering a cool euro plate if i can fabricate some way for it to fit correctly...

I haven't had any problems in Texas in the last two years. The car came without whatever the plate mounts to and I have no idea where to scare one up so it'll stay like that unless some kind of problem comes up.

You probably won't get a ticket for having the euro plate by local PD but the Troops will cite you. It also gives us a reason to stop you so expect to be stopped.

They use front plates to identify you when you run a red light and the camera snap pictures of you from the front (camera ticketing devices) here in Calif. They will definitely give you a ticket if they notice. I bought my Bronco from the impound and belonged to a cop who goes to court against offenders (when his car was impounded, he left files and pictures of the alleged offenders and as to why the impound sold the car with people's personal information, I don't know). They use the front plate and a picture of your face from the front just in case you deny being the driver of the vehicle. I have received fixer tickets WHILE THE CAR IS PARKED for having no front plates.

That pretty much sums it up. Even in CA there is little chance you would get pulled over because of no front plate, but it provides a nice chance you see if they can get more money off you.

If you park your car in the streets, you need to be careful though. Only recently they towed and ticketed me for parking in the streets for old tags and non-op status.

I have one on my Jetta, but here in TN, we only use back plates like everywhere should. I held mine on with industrial velcro from target - 2 strips about 3" long.

This place is great - quick shipment and great service:

awsome plate ryan. In jersey, at least south jersey, the cops are pretty much blind to most stuff, but there is always the occasional trooper who will tag you. I too am under 18 so I'm not even going to bother with the cost of a ticket let alone the cost of a europlate. For 2 YEARS (before I got my licence) I got away with riding a minibike (blatantly illegal) to school and back (5 miles) and would see cops daily, I would just wave, give my turn signal, and keep going and they never said a thing...btw: be4 I get flamed: 1. bike was free 2. sure as hell beat getting up at 5:30 to walk to school.
its just the luck of the draw

These are the plates on my german 944.. the front is just bolted into the bumper. The rear actually has a groove specifically for the euro plates which won't fit american style.

You can find euro plates on ebay, too. Custom made for you.

If you need a euro bumper, I know of two that are for sale here in the states. from $300 - $450, depending on what you want to come w/it. Plus shipping.
