Default New crush washer for OPRV?

I've had an oil leak on the passenger side of my engine for a while now, along with slightly-low oil pressure (~1.25-1.5 bars when warm and idling). I'd like to pull the OPRV and replace the seals on that (I don't have $300 for a new one), and also reseal the oil pressure sender unit, if that's possible.

Where can I get replacement o-rings for the OPRV, and is it possible to rebuild/ repair the OPSU?

Thanks!

I dont think its possible to rebuild the sending unit for the oil pressure.. i would just replace that. The sending unit is only about $30 new.

Edited - I read the post wrong.. .

I just did an oil cooler re-seal on my brother's car - don't remember there being an oring on the OPRV - should just be a spring and plunger.

Ah, you're right. I misread some older posts. The early 3-piece on doesn't have an o-ring.

There doesn't appear to be a write-up on clark's garage. Is there a good one anyone knows of out there, or is it fairly straight-forward?

I went down to the dealer with old o-ring in hand... basically just measure and locate a replacement and you are fine.

Pretty straight forward... It's a world easier if you have the exhaust manifold off.

I was doing it at the same time as a full belt change - had all the stuff on the front of the engine off, fans radiator, exhaust was loose to move around but not out of the car. It was really pretty easy - did it all through the top.

I've been digging through some old threads here on rennlist and at clark's. There's some mention of an alignment tool for the early-style (83-86) OPRV's. Is this neccesary, and, if so, anyone know where I can get one?

We didn't need one - the actual sleeve part is in the engine on the early cars I believe. When we got it all back together with fresh mobile-1 the engine was sitting at 4.8-5.0 bar at cold idle......

So if there's no o-ring to replace, what could be causing the leak? Is there a crush washer? Anyone have some dimensions on this so I can find a replacement?

Also, what size socket is needed for the OPRV, and what size wrench for the OPSU?

Is the oil leaking into the coolant, or out of the engine onto the ground?

On to the ground. Passenger side of the engine is messy. The belts are dry and so are the insides of the cover, so I'm leaning away from front seals. I have a set laying around the garage somewhere, but I don't feel like pulling the front of the engine apart right now. I figured I'd try something relatively cheap and easy to fix it first.

Know what you mean - if I were closer I would help you do it - it is still fresh in my memory and I have all the arnnworx tools now......

How often do the balance shaft covers leak on these cars?

I dunno, how big of a bitch are those to reseal?

Anything special needed to replace the OPRV and OPSU? If there is I'll bug Matt H and see if he's got 'em.

At this point, I'm just hoping my car holds out until next spring when I'll actually start a real job. I plan on buying a new car and pulling/ rebuilding the engine in the 944 at that point.

Well, if you do it with all the belts/waterpump off the whole job becomes way easier - don't even need to pull the PS pump if you go that route. Really, having the WP out made all the difference in the world. Other than that, the OPRV and sending unit are screwed into the same peice of metal. Sending unit is just two wires and then the whole thing unscrews from the oil cooler housing. The OPRV is underneath a plug - 17 or 19mm IIRC, just falls right out. Check it for burrs or rough spots, reinstall - if you don't pull the oil cooler housing there is no reason to even think about having to align it.
