Engine Rattle -- Safe to drive?
I have searched through every topic concerning rattles, knocks etc. I am pretty sure my rattle is caused from a belt being too loose as the sound is coming from the distributor cap area. Is it safe to drive it to my mechanic 15 minutes away? Or should I have it towed?

a 944 and sounds like a belt .. what do YOU think !
seriously why not whip off the covers and take a look. it could be a ballance shaft belt even . If it was I would remove it and drive over. if it comes off and gets caught in your timing belt now you have problems.

It's free to get a 10 mm socket and remove the belt covers and test the belt tensioning. New head , replacing valves, pistons.. 3 grand.
Do the math.
