I've been trying to figure out why water was collecting in my rear wheel well for a little while now. I originally thought it was the sunroof drain tube leaking or something, but that wasn't the trouble. So today I went out and poured some water down the rear window and watched it. It collected on the spolier, went out the little rectangular drain hole (as it should) and then proceeded down the back of the car and through the very top between the rear lights and the body. Is this a common occurance? Is this preventable? Is there some seal there that could be replaced above the light?

I do not know if it is common, but it is not a big deal and can be taken care of easily. All you need to do is to remove the tail lamp and remove the old seal (tar like material) and replace it with a new strip (you should be able to find the stuff at your average auto parts store). Odds are you have a small gap, and the water is just creeping in there.
