Thanks. It's mainly just to keep the elements out. I always drive with the windows down anyway.

According to Jon Milledge, he feels a legal SCCA ITS 944 can get down to 2500 lbs. That is w/o lexan or fiberglass.

apparently the most weight savings is in the undercoating.

I have built a car for just De with no rules to worry about. As far as I can guess it will be under 2100 lbs. Lots of custom and modified parts. and way way to much labor.

With driver?

The 2500 lbs assumes a 180 lb driver.

The 2380lbs. is no driver. The car was built when the rule was 2715lbs. So we've been on a 'diet' since then to keep reducing weight. With driver we are a little over the new 2575lb. weight. We are going on the scales again soon and should be a little lighter.

my 84 944 spec is 2620 with driver and some ballast.

This comes to about 2450 or so with out the driver.

The has been stripped of all the interior and basic stuff. It still has all the undercoating, stock power windows, full size battey, and 5lbs of the heater box. It also has probably 20-25bls in racing seat, harness and mounting for passenger.

So my car just by removing simple stuff gets me to easily to 2400 or even 2380. That simple stuff is ballast, pass seat, heater box, power windows & glass, and battery.

Beyond that is most of the factory undercoatings which would take time.

Spaze remember for 944 cup rules you can run a 2600lbs only if you prep to 944 spec which does NOT allow fiberglass or lexan (door windows are excepted since they can be removed entirely).

The lowest non 944 spec prep weigth in 944 cup (not talking a 2.5L NA in supercup) is 2650 with driver so it is easier to reach than 944 spec weight, but has different allowances.

Now how far can go go with a 944 NA. My guess is 2250 or so if you take a spec type prep and do undercoatings, FG front fenders, hood, lexan hatch and maybe FG rear qtrs. Going farther is possible, but then you need to start cutting interior metal. I believe the lightest 944 race car I have heard of was 2166lbs 944 with a 968 Motor. So with smaller 2.5L unit and small wheels/tires/brakes maybe 2100 going all out with no stone untouched?

thanks. The reason i ask is running in cup sould be cool, but running in super cup (2300lbs) would be even better! haha, but i think I'm putting the carrage in front of the horse here.. i need to get the car running first.

But just think for a second a 2000lbs car (with driver) and a race motor making ~150hp... I think both are doable... but would take more time and money than i have.

Strip off all the paint on the car, inside and out.

Call Jenny Craig too. Why should you not have to trim down as well?
