Early gages are a nightmare compared to lates. The gage bezel is locked to the gage "can" with a rolled lip. I've heard of people un-rolling the lip, but good used gages are cheap.

I guess it's thanks to PO, so far, for the crap diagnosis. Nice!

If you take care of your car you really don't need the brake pad sensors. They are for people who just drive without ever looking at maintenence on thier own.... Unless of course you insist on eeking the last little bit out of your brake pads.

As for the early gages, it is true they are a royal pain to open. You might want to just get a used tachometer rather than try to fix yours.

Anyone have one they want to sell?

Can we just delete the wear sensors? - we obviously do our own maint. and I think we can handle checking the pads from time to time.......

Yes the sensors are easy to unplug and remove. If the light bothers you, disable the bulb.

Hey guys. I'm the owner of the Porsche that this thread is about. Anyways, I just pulled off all the wheels and its up and jack stands. Now, I dont have as much experience as my dad and my brother do, so here I am going to ask something. How do I go about reseting/disabling the brake pad sensors.

******EDIT

Okay, well after doing a little more research on my car, I can see that the previous owner didnt connect them at all, just simply tierapped them to itself. Ill see if I can get it hooked back up first before I go about totally removing it

It's been a while since I removed mine but to start off, look for a wire going to one of the brake pads (I believe it's the inboard pad). You can try tugging on this wire to see if the sensor will pop out of there. If not, you may have to remove the pad in order to remove the sensor (I was changing pads when I removed the sensors). The sensor wire is about 10 inches long and it is plugged into the wiring harness at a connector that you pull apart. That's it. You might want to just wait until you need to change pads and do it then.

That light also indicates low brake fluid levels (also used for clutch hydrolics), at least on the 84's. I'd fix it rather than delete it...

Too cool. Sharky47 saves another 44!
With that I present you this award. In the face of parting out you have stood above and beyond and revived countless 44's so that they may live to drive another day.

Haha, thanks dude - may have to use that as an avatar for a while......

Car is really coming along, we are going to make another order from Paragon probably tomorrow - need to change out all the suspension bushings and balljoints. Repacked one of the front bearings last night and will do the other one this afternoon. Need to repaint the black part of the Fuchs, the metal part is nice and shiney though. Dad will probably work on the airdam, he made some aluminum doublers to put behind the plastic and fix the cracks.
