Not bad for a 16 year old...
As some of you know, I bought my 1990 S2 in mid-April. Since then I've driven up to Cincinnati (a little less than four hours) and down to Birmingham (close to three), but I haven't had occasion to take her on a real, honest-to-goodness road trip. Well, this past weekend I drove from Nashville to the Florida panhandle to see family and I decided to take Charlotte and see how she'd do.
As it turned out, she performed flawlessly. Not a drop of oil lost, the temperature never rose above the first bar, and the AC worked okay -- all of this in sweltering Southern summer heat. 498 miles in exactly seven hours (including a sit-down lunch, refuelling stop, and four bathroom breaks) = 71.14 mph. Suffice to say that there are enormous stretches of Alabama that aren't heavily patrolled.
Charlotte's performance on this trip was a testament to precisely how balanced and beautifully engineered these cars really are. There wasn't one moment when my faith was shaken, and I arrived refreshed and perfectly willing to drive another 500 miles. Not bad at all for a 16 year old air-cooled Porker, eh? Amazing, really. I do love this car...

Glad to see another 944 that gets used! I see too many get trailered everyewhere around where I'm from.
I make a 6 hour trip up to Madison, WI about once a month & love what great touring cars they really are. My only complaint is that I am not fortunate enough to have a cruise control. Regardless, it doesnt take much effort to maintain a constant speed with out it. Plus I'm young enough to not need to complain about a little knee discomfort.

I've driven to VIR (8+ hour trip) a couple of times from NJ, and have driven many times to Watkins Glen and Summit Point, which are 4 hours away with my 944S2. A couple of years ago, Mrs. Z-man and I made a trip to Niagara Falls and combined that with a 3 day Watkins Glen DE. Knock on wood, the car has always served me well. And these days, I even pull a small tire trailer behind it!
What amazes me is that I can flog my car out on the racetrack, and then drive home in it comfortably. Gotta love German engineering.

You must have one of them rare 944 / 911 hybrid models...
I'm at work. Cut me some slack. I was probably feigning interest in a report or my boss' email or something at the time.
Gotta love German engineering.

The longest trip I have taken my 924S on is about one hour and 30 mins. I am a little afraid right now to take it further without getting the belt changed. Once thats done I will one day take it across the country.

Although I wouldn't define it as German engineering making the difference. Maybe that the 944 was innately designed as a well balanced, sturdy sports car.

I commute roundtrip 75-80 miles everyday and used to drive to DFW every other weekend to visit my girlfriend. These cars are great on long trips! (not that 200 miles is a long trip)

The first road trip I took in my car was the on the second day I owned it. I drove it home to NYC from Columbia, SC. That was nearly 83,000 miles ago. Been smiling since that day.

I drove Heidi from Seattle to Bowling Green Kentucky with my brother in my car, a roof top carrier and roof bars, and the car fully loaded down with all my crap, and the car performed flawlessy, and crusied nicely at 75 mph, all well averaging 27.5MPG! I really do love these cars. Its my daily Driver, and track car too.

I've had Christine since February. Drove her home from Bristol. We made a trip tp Charlotte and back. Another trip to Greenville, SC for a week on business. Our last trip was to Road Atlanta for the Walter Mitty Race. All this was with the front seal pouring oil and the vacuum lines trying to equalize. The clutch was also making a noise that turned heads at red lights and drive thrus. Then she sufferd catastrophic disc failure. Named her Christine because the PO had a heart attack last year before I got her and I had a TIA (mini stroke) Easter weekend doing the vacuum lines. The cinder blocks are under the tires to make sure she stays in the air while I'm under her!!

only real trip i've done is when driving (like many have said) the 944 from NY to MO after buying it. good drive, but no a/c 'n stereo.
That kind of reminds me of tonight, i was driving the 924S to my girlfriends and she is 45 minutes away. Well there was road construction, and since the a/c decided to crap out and i havn't wired my stereo back to normal it was sorta the same situation. ooh but what was fun is that while in traffic i undid the latches to the sunroof flipped it up and lowered it into the hatch while sitting in the drivers seat, it was funny, people were watching...lol
