Default Stearing rack wear

hi all,

Just moving i post i did from the other, less popular forum, as recomended by the friendly josephsc. Basicly i'm Looking into my first porsche, a 1990's S2. Things looking good, only imediate problem is "the steering whines slightly when turning in a tight space (prob slight rack wear)"
Any ideas on what to look out for in this regard, and what's the potential damage trying to fix this? Appreciate the help guys.

josephsc mentioned the power stearing fluid levels -
I would guess that the whine is coming from your PS (power steering) system gasping for fluid somewhere. What's your PS fluid level? The PS system on these cars are known to leak.... If you do refill, keep in mind NOT to use PS fluid, but ATF (automatic transmission fluid) -- should say Dextron III or higher.

BTW, you'll find that more people hang out on the "main" 924/44/68 board.
I know in the car the power stearing pump was replaced 3 years ago - could it still be the problem?

Thanks for any help guys

Absolutely and I feel most likely. Something as simple as a leaky power steering hose or a loose hoseclamp can cause even the smallest of leaks, and over time can cause what you experience.
Someone needs to clean the area real well and look for a leak.
