Sorry you got tagged. I had something happen today that hasn't occurred in 20 years. I got clocked and stopped on the same 55 mph farm road twice in 10 minutes. There must ahve been an accident last weekend and panties were racheted up a notch with the CHP. The first was 72 and the 2nd was 64. They saw I was in a Gov Durango and just gave me the lecture. It helps to say "I got passed twice in the last 15 minutes so I know what your saying about fast drivers" I drive fast but that road today was a target for some reason.

I don't believe you. There is no way Rock's car got up to 100 without something falling/flying off. Rock, have you walked around your car to make sure everything is still there?

Wow, I thought I was the only one with a spedo that wouldn't work until 40 or I tap on it. btw, cleaning the dashboard contacts did nothing to fix that.

Sorry to hear about the ticket Rock. At least it's your first one and knocked down to below reckless.

were you out in the boonies out in the area between EG/Florin Rd and Grant Line?

or were you out somewhere else on DWR business since you were using their durango?

they've been stepping up enforcement out there real hard. on wednesdays, people come out of the race track still hyped up and race up and down the country roads.

up until last week, i never saw ONE CHP or Sheriff. this week, they were EVERYWHERE.

i guess they finally caught on to that little revenue generator.

The best way to calibrate your speedometer is to find a nice open space of road and go for top speed. Note the speed indicated on your speedometer and compare to your vehicle model's rated top speed. Then make the necessary mental adjustments for future readings. This also cleans the carbon out of your speedometer and will make it read more accurately.

or you could just compare your speed and rpm vs what the manual says it's supposed to be.....

and not go around doing top speed runs....

I was on Matthews Road between I-5 (Stockton) and Tracy. Everyone drives about 70-75 and both times they lit me up while coming at me in the oncoming lane. It's nothing but alfalfa fields for miles out there. I now know the CHP radar works from at least 1/2 mile if not more

I would not worry about the accuracy of your speedometer by +/-10 mph. The root solution is to obey the law or get a really good lawyer.

I've run mine against a GPS and found that it's off about 7 mph. Did a bunch of researching on this some time ago and the concensus was that the speedo on ALL these cars were more suggestive than pin-point accurate. The fix? find out how much it's off and make a mental note of it and live with it. Not worth the money to try and fix, and even then the fix is not a guarantee.
