Default Transmission Question...OT

I posted this on the 911 board, but I figured I'd ask here as well, just in case anyone here has a 911 too...or the 911 board doesn't respond because I don't have a "real" porsche...

Hi,

I'm from the 944 board, but I have a client that has an 80 SC and I told him I'd try to find some info for him.

He has a blown 915 transmission and is looking for a good rebuilt one. I had recommended replacing it with a rebuilt G50. Although after doing a search, I have a feeling there will be a lot of for's and against changing from the 915 to the G50.

Anyway, my questions are:

1. Can a G50 transaxle be put into a 1980 SC?

2. Where can I direct him for a rebuilt transmission...915 or G50?

Thanks

it should be possible to put a G50 into an SC, the 87 Carrera had a G50 and that is basically the same body. One would need to make provisions for a hydraulic clutch release mech. You would probably need a pedal cluster from a late Carrera, it would also be necessary to run a hyd. line from front to rear. What is wrong with the 915 box? if it's just worn synchs, it would be a whole lot cheaper to rebuild that trans. I think that the body in the area over the tail of the trans would need modification if you were to install a G50
