Default Oil Drain Plug Seal - Where to find?

Hey guys,

Its time to do an oil change, and last time I didnt change the drain plug seal and I think I probably should this time around. I checked Advance Auto Parts in my Area and can't find one. I would really like not to have to buy one from Porshce so do you guys know where I can find one, or another generic part that will work? I have an 84 944 N/A.

Thanks,
- John

I get mine from the dealer. They're cheap. Something like a quarter.

I usually get one with each oil filter I buy. If I recall correctly, Paragon provides one with each filter. If not - just ask next time you buy filters.

This assumes you don't mind buying online. Personally, I see no reason not to. You can get genuine Mahle filters at about $5 each online. Sure you pay a little in shipping, but in the long run I find it more convenient. Going to the local parts store and paying $20 per filter (and with any luck they have one in stock) is not my idea of convenient.

Some Victory Motorcycles use the same size crush washer... well, at least the oil change kits from Victory have the right crush washer in them. I have yet to get a bike that I needed it on though.

Pelican has them for 50 cents. I'm surprised they didn't send me 911 washers or a lockwasher by mistake, though- they messed up a majority of my orders when I bought through them.

I usually buy them along with a batch of filters from Paragon Products.

I usually buy extras but when I forget I have successfully 'rehabilitated' the aluminum washer by sanding it on a flat surface (glass) with 400 grit emery paper. Just move it in a circular motion until the ridges go away (on both sides of the washer).

All it is.........is an aluminum crush washer. Many places (auto parts stores, and some hardware stores) may very well have them. You'll just have to take the plug down and match it up. They ARE cheap, wherever ya get them. Don't worry, be happy. Torque that drain plug properly.

I've just bought them online thru one of our sponsors, whilst ordering other parts. Get a few extras. They are cheap, and IIRC, can be used elsewhere on these cars.

By the way, IF it isn't leaking, and your torquing this plug per spec., and/or you don't see any real signs of destruction to it, re-use it. You could always use a little emory cloth, to touch it up a little, if required. Being REAL **** about these crush washers, IS a waste of your time.

I just buy 10 at a time from Pelican for $0.50 each. Lasts a long time!
