Default power window died.....

My 89 NA passenger window stopped working. I checked for 12 volts at the window motor and it is there. I also hear a faint click out of the motor when I push the switch. I had a squeal sort of noise for a while before it stopped but it seamed to move ok so I was not too worried about it.

Does this sound like the window motor is shot?
Thanks

Or the window is jammed.

Definatly not the switch as I am getting 12 volts across the motor contacts when I push the switch. I gave the motor a wack while pushing the down button with no effect. How do I check if the regulator is jammed? Can the motor come off with out removing the regulator? This would allow me to check just the motor and still keep the window up to keep out the rain.

This sounds familiar, except my drivers side has gone intermittant going up only. First thing i did yesterday was change the connections from the right to left switches to rule out the switch and i sprayed the connections with contact cleaner.

As the window circuit is designed to suffer a stalled motor you will not get the blown fuse indicator. I would make a set of jumpers that would run the motor directly. One side to ground the other from 12 vdc. Switching the connections at the motor changes the direction. If you find the motor moving a bit either direction but still stuck then I would pull the motor/regulator and see if the regulator gears have failed and jammed.

Replacing the assembly is tricky but not impossible.
