I think i will get e new set of pads for the road after this DE event. The ones i have now are [pretty chewed up. Chunks are missing from the edhes and the surface is pitted. I hope this is actually my problem.

Do you have a micrometer? Take about 8 measurements around the rotors. I think as long as they are more than 19.1mm front and 19.2mm rear you should be able to machine them.

Not a good idea if you are tracking the car. Their thermal transfer ability will be reduced by removing rotor material.

One last (stupid) question (I hope). If i sand down the rotors with garnet paper and then just "try them out" with the pads that are still on there will i know if it worked? Would rather not go through the process of sanding the rotors and then bedding in the more agressive pads to see that it didn't work and then have to get new rotors and rebed the pads.

So what i would really like to do is sand the rotors put the wheels on and feel if there is a difference. And then either just change the pads or change the pads and rotors. Is this possible?

Do you have close-up pictures of those old pads? Post up a few pics if you can.

Shoot, those are fine! Hard to tell from the pic, but they might be glazed over a bit toward the middle. Use the garnet paper as well to rub a little of that material off the pad surface. Sand off your rotors w/ the garnet paper, pop those pads back in and see if the rotors are any better. If not, then replace the rotors.

There doesn't seem to be anything about those pads that would cause any kind of vibration. It's gotta be the rotors. Either pads transfer material, or warped. If sanding the rotors off w/ garnet paper doesn't solve the vibration, replace the rotors. Use your old pads to bed in the rotors, as you don't want to use new pads on new rotors. Once the rotors are bedded in w/ your old pads, then you can bed in your new pads. Follow the manufacturers recommendations for both the rotors and pads, as they sometimes differ.

What's with the uneven wear? Have your pads always wore like this?

Or are they not unevenly worn, maybe it's just the pic?

Either way, it doesn't sound like those pads are up to the task of track use.

I recently had this same problem with my S2 while using MM Ultimates on the track. I had used them previously @ Mid-O, but they were full depth. When I went to Putnam, they were about half depth and I think they just got overcooked and had the pad deposition as you guys have noted. This was on brand new rotors.

The solution I used was to buy a set of Hawk Blues and just bed the new pads into the rotors. Still had the thrumming you guys experienced during the bed in procedure. I let the pads cool overnight then street drove the car to work (84 miles round trip) for 2 days and the vibes were gone. Took the Hawks out and put the MM's back in for the street.

BTW the Hawks were sweet on the track, highly recommended!

Cheers,
