I tried the replacement part. The thing lasted about 6 months and tore apart. Useless crap, pos, @#^%$ part!

I used some rubber material from a stair tread (available at your local home improvement store) as a replacement hinge. The rubber tread cost me like $4.00. I cut a small strip on either side of the curved nosing part and slipped in place of the plastic "POS" hinge. I reinforced it by using contact cement to attach it.

It's been about 3 years since I wasted $20 on the replacement part. She is still 100% with no signs of failure. I would NOT buy a replacement hinge. DIY and save some coin

part #'s you'll need - 944.552.155.00 - center console tray
944.552.161.00 - insert (i'm assuming this is a flat rubber piece that sits inside the tray)

Do you go to Porsche for this part, or is there a vendor that carries them?

it is truely telling how some of you guys would use a piano hinge, drill holes or use glue, electrial tape than just get the right part...funny, same guys bitch if you don't have EVERY record for a car that is listed $2500 under what it should be sold for...really telling, gives you something to think about

I don't use a piano hinge because i'm cheap. I do it because when the stock piece breaks, and it will, it drives me nuts. The piano hinge is an effective, long lasting solution. The stock piece is a crappy design and needs improvement. I'm fairly certain that every person on this forum who has had their car, as a daily driver, for a long time has broken it at least once. How many piano hinge's have failed?

i have the original hinge in my cars (both 90 and 91 cabs)...I have only had to replace 1 in 17 years that was my fault....My 88 went 215k miles and still had the original, of course I don't open it every 2 minutes.
I personally, when I look at a car to buy, look at the hinge, I think that if the person stuped to that kind of butchery on the simple 20 part, then the rest of the car is likely a hodge podge too...Just my opinion fwiw

I really like the one pictured above - really more useful as I have never opened my console until the day it broke.........

I open mine at least 4 times a day every day. 170k miles replaced once. You guys must beat on your hinges.

Default Here's my suggestion

I think the reason a lot of hinges fail is just opening the center console and letting the lid fall over to the right puts a LOT of pressure on the plastic hinge. I always try to either gently lift up and turn the lid over, or support it with my hand under the lid as I'm turning it over. Don't just rip the center console open like it's a big candy bar. Treat it like a box of mercury.
