left it open last night and walked up the street, but rushed back home when i saw the rain comin, got it in time. you must have gotten hit by the same storm as us.

This makes me think of the iWindows for Bimmers. I wish they had the same kind of deal for our cars.
For those that aren't familiar: if you own a rain sensor equipped BMW you can buy a module that will close the sunroof and raise the windows when the windshield detects rain. My brother-in-law has a convertable Bimmer and I'm thinking of getting him one for Christmas.

Not in the 951...
-But when I first came to Florida I had a rented Mustang convertible and I once went inside the apartment for 5 minutes, having left the car top down. When I came outside and the heavens had opened and it was pouring with rain.
-I ran to the car, put the key in the ignition and sat there while the motor struggled to close the roof. -I did wonder why it seemed to be slower than usual, but I put it down to the fact that the engine wasn't running... about a tenth of a second too late, I realised why it was slow: The "flip-over section of the top was filled with several gallons of water, and the weight was making it struggle. -As I suddenly realised and looked up, the top flipped over and dumped gallons of water over me.
-It gave a couple of onlookers something to laugh about! -I had to go back in to change; -I was drenched!

The night i bought my RX7 convertible my buddy and I drove over to a friends house. I had to show them how the nifty top went up and down.
the RX7 roof has a hard center targa piece. you raise the top, the push a button and the targa folds.
well genious didnt want to get out of the car so i raised the top a bit, pushed the button, but forgot to hold the top. the targa folded itself in a way newton would be proud of. it crashed on my head, no make that face. my glasses were mangled.
I looke up with my bent glasses......

It is currently raining in NC and my "lady friend" has called to let me know that she understands if I come to see her in the work truck tonight, knowing that the "girlfriend/'86 944 NA" does not get driven in the rain.

I left the roof off my 924S while at the park with some friends. I came back to the car to see a bird had shat just foward of the wind deflector. Nothing got inside the car, but it scared me enough to never leave the roof off when i park the car.

driven in the rain with it off. at 65 mph the wind deflector keeps most of the rain off the interior..
left it vented.. never off during rain tho.

Left the roof open in our A4 Avant during a pretty good downpour once. Had the Thule Weekender on at the time - full width box sloping into the roof. Completely filled a cup in the cup holder with water.
Dried out perfectly after a few days. You'd never know it happened.
